Complementary Curriculum

Counseling Plus, Inc. (CPI) has developed an additional curriculum with 12 units in Spanish for our PG Latino clients. This curriculum was compiled for CPI by our counselor Carmen Duran, PhD, LCADC, and is used during Phase II of the program. It’s titled “ Un Paso a la Vez”. The topics are related to the Stages of Change and are complementary to our regular curriculum.

CPI Contributes to Scholarship Fund

This year, like in previous years, CPI has contributed $2,000.00 to the Scholarship Fund of the Hispanic Employees Association of Montgomery County Public Schools (HEAMCPS). This fund gives scholarships to high achieving Hispanic high school students for their college expenses. Since its inception, CPI has contributed thousands of dollars to this fund.

CPI Provides Services in Baltimore

Under a 10-month contract with the Bureau of Prisons, CPI provided substance abuse treatment services to BOP 30 ongoing clients at the facility of Volunteers of America (VOA), a half-way house in Baltimore. Two counselors and one administrative staff member went to VOA one day a week and conducted intake/assessments, group and individual sessions. The results were very positive.

Changes in the Montgomery County Contract

CPI has been providing substance abuse services to Montgomery Co. clients for over 15 years, under different contracts. This year, the County issued contracts under an open solicitation. As a result, several contractors are now providing Level I services. CPI is one of them,

Graduation

CPI Program Coordinator, Mirian N. Sanchez, and our intern/consultants Cheryl S. Campbell and Jeannine White added a new degree to their resumes. They finished a Master’s program in Organizational Counseling and graduated at John Hopkins University in May of 2009. Congratulations!

New Licenses

Mirian N. Sanchez, CPI Program Coordinator, passed the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) Exam as well as the Exam of the State of Maryland and obtained a license as LGC from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists in Maryland. Myrna Briganty, a full-time counselor at CPI, passed the exam of the Board of Social Workers and obtained her license as a LSW-G. Both were substance abuse counselors with a trainee status. Congratulations!
