What Is This Service?
Group substance use counseling is a form of therapy where a small group of individuals meets regularly with a licensed facilitator to discuss their experiences with substance use, share challenges and successes, and support each other in making positive changes. Group counseling combines professional guidance with the power of peer support.
Group sessions are structured but interactive. The facilitator guides discussions, introduces topics, and ensures a safe, respectful environment. Participants share their experiences, learn from others, practice new skills, and build a support network. The group format helps participants realize they are not alone in their struggles.
Counseling Plus Inc. offers group substance use counseling with licensed facilitators who create a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Groups are available in English and Spanish, virtually and in person. Our group programs meet court and probation documentation requirements.
Who Needs This Service?
Group counseling may be right for you if you benefit from peer support, want a cost-effective alternative to individual counseling, or have been referred to group counseling by a court, probation officer, or evaluation. Many people find that hearing others' experiences helps them understand their own patterns and feel less isolated.
Group counseling is commonly required as part of court-ordered treatment plans, probation conditions, or post-program continued support. If your evaluation or treatment plan recommends group counseling, we can provide the documentation your referring party needs.
You don't need to be involved with the legal system to attend group counseling. Many individuals choose group counseling because they value the community aspect and peer support. Our groups welcome anyone seeking support with substance use concerns.
How the Process Works
Group counseling begins with enrollment and scheduling. You'll be placed in a group that fits your needs and schedule. Groups typically meet weekly, with sessions lasting 60 to 90 minutes.
During sessions, the licensed facilitator guides discussions, introduces topics related to substance use and recovery, and ensures a safe, respectful environment. Participants share their experiences, offer support to one another, and practice skills discussed in the group.
Attendance and participation are tracked throughout the program. If group counseling is required by a court or probation officer, we provide attendance records, progress reports, and completion documentation directly to your referring party at no additional cost.
How Long Does It Take?
Group counseling sessions typically last 60 to 90 minutes and meet weekly. The total duration depends on your individual needs, court requirements, or treatment plan recommendations.
Some clients attend group counseling for a specified number of sessions (such as 12 or 24), while others continue for longer. Your facilitator and referring party will help determine the appropriate duration
We offer evening and virtual group sessions to accommodate work and personal schedules. Spanish-language groups are available for clients who prefer to participate in Spanish.
Who Accepts It?
Our group substance use counseling is accepted by Maryland courts, probation offices, the MVA, and attorneys. Our licensed facilitators provide documentation that meets court and probation standards.
If group counseling is required as part of a court order or probation condition, we provide attendance records, progress reports, and completion documentation directly to your referring party at no additional cost.
Group counseling is also available to individuals who are self-referred and not involved with the legal system. Our groups are confidential and welcoming to anyone seeking support.
