What Is This Service?

Individual therapy is a form of mental health treatment where a licensed therapist works one-on-one with a client to address emotional, psychological, and behavioral concerns. Therapy provides a confidential, supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings, understand patterns, develop coping strategies, and work toward meaningful change.

Therapy can address a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem, and personal growth. The approach is personalized — your therapist tailors the sessions to your specific needs, goals, and circumstances.

Counseling Plus Inc. provides individual therapy with licensed clinicians who use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Our therapists are compassionate, experienced, and committed to helping you achieve your goals. Available in English and Spanish, virtually or in person.

Who Needs This Service?

Individual therapy may be right for you if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, or other emotional difficulties and want professional support. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy — many people attend therapy to gain insight, develop skills, and improve their overall well-being.

You may benefit from therapy if you're going through a difficult life transition — such as a divorce, job change, loss, or major decision — and want support navigating the challenges. Therapy can also help if you're struggling with patterns you want to change, such as negative thinking, relationship difficulties, or unhealthy coping habits.

Some individuals are referred to therapy by a healthcare provider, court, or employer. Whether you're seeking therapy voluntarily or because it's been recommended, our therapists provide the same compassionate, professional care to every client.

Signs You May Need This Service

  • Persistent feelings of anxiety, worry, or sadness

  • Feeling stuck or overwhelmed by your circumstances

  • Grief, loss, or traumatic experiences

  • Difficulty sleeping, concentrating, or enjoying activities

  • Difficulty coping with stress or life changes

  • Relationship difficulties or patterns you want to change

  • Low self-esteem or negative self-talk

  • You want professional support for personal growth

How the Process Works

Therapy begins with an initial appointment where you and your therapist discuss your concerns, history, and goals. This first session helps your therapist understand your situation and develop a personalized approach to treatment.

Subsequent sessions focus on your specific needs and goals. Your therapist may use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, or solution-focused techniques. Sessions are collaborative — you and your therapist work together to identify patterns, develop skills, and make progress.

The frequency and duration of therapy depend on your individual needs. Some clients attend weekly, others biweekly or monthly. Sessions are typically 50 minutes and can be conducted in person or virtually.

How Long Does It Take?

Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes long. The frequency and total number of sessions depend on your individual needs and goals.

Some clients attend therapy for a few months to address a specific concern, while others continue for longer to work on deeper patterns and ongoing growth. Your therapist will work with you to determine the right approach.

We offer evening and virtual sessions to accommodate work and personal schedules. Spanish-language therapy is available for clients who prefer to conduct sessions in Spanish.

Who Accepts It?

Our individual therapy is provided by licensed therapists and is accepted by Maryland courts, employers, and healthcare providers when therapy is required as part of legal or professional proceedings.

If therapy is required by a court order or employment requirement, we provide documentation of attendance and progress for your referring party at no additional administrative cost.

Therapy is also available to individuals who are self-referred and not involved with the legal system. Our services are confidential and available to anyone seeking support.

What Happens After Your Appointment?

After each therapy session, you and your therapist may discuss next steps, strategies to practice, or topics to explore in future sessions. Therapy is an ongoing process, and progress is reviewed regularly.

If therapy is required by a court or employer, we provide attendance records and progress documentation for your referring party. All documentation is included at no additional cost.

Many clients continue therapy for as long as they find it valuable. When you and your therapist agree that you've achieved your goals, you may reduce frequency or conclude therapy with a plan for maintaining your progress.
