What Is This Service?

Relapse Prevention is a structured educational and therapeutic program designed to help individuals maintain recovery by identifying personal triggers, strengthening coping skills, and developing practical strategies to reduce the risk of returning to substance use.

Rather than focusing only on stopping substance use, relapse prevention helps participants understand the thoughts, emotions, situations, and behaviors that can increase relapse risk. Through education, self-awareness, and skill development, individuals learn how to respond to high-risk situations in healthier and more effective ways.

At Counseling Plus Inc., our Relapse Prevention Program is led by experienced substance use professionals who provide a supportive, judgment-free environment where participants can build long-term recovery skills. Services are available in English and Spanish, both virtually and in person.

Who Needs This Service?

You may benefit from a Relapse Prevention Program if you have completed or are currently participating in a substance use education or treatment program and want additional support maintaining your recovery.

This program is also appropriate for individuals who have experienced previous relapses, are transitioning back into daily life after treatment, or have been referred by a court, probation officer, attorney, employer, or other agency that requires continued recovery support.

Whether recovery is new or well established, relapse prevention provides practical tools to help maintain progress and confidently navigate everyday challenges.

Signs You May Need This Service

  • You've previously returned to substance use after a period of sobriety

  • You're completing a treatment or education program and want continued support.

  • You're concerned about triggers, cravings, or high-risk situations.

  • You want to strengthen your long-term recovery plan.

  • Your counselor recommends additional recovery support

  • Your court, probation officer, or referral source requires continued participation.

  • You're experiencing increased stress that may affect your recovery.

How the Process Works

The program consists of structured group and/or individual sessions that focus on relapse prevention education, recovery planning, coping skills, emotional regulation, stress management, and healthy lifestyle development.

Participants work with experienced counselors to identify personal relapse triggers, develop individualized prevention strategies, and strengthen the skills needed to maintain recovery over time.

Each session builds upon previous topics, allowing participants to create a practical relapse prevention plan that can be applied in everyday life.

How Long Does It Take?

Program length varies based on each participant's referral requirements, clinical recommendations, and individual recovery goals.

Sessions are typically scheduled on a weekly basis and may be completed virtually or in person, providing flexibility for work, family, and other responsibilities.

Your counselor will discuss the recommended duration of participation based on your specific circumstances.

Who Accepts It?

Our Relapse Prevention Program may satisfy continued participation requirements established by courts, probation officers, attorneys, employers, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), treatment providers, or other authorized referral sources when appropriate.

With your written authorization, Counseling Plus Inc. can provide enrollment verification, progress reports, attendance records, and completion documentation to authorized individuals or agencies.

If your referral has specific participation or reporting requirements, we recommend confirming those requirements before beginning the program.

What Happens After Your Appointment?

Throughout the program, participants continue developing practical recovery skills while receiving guidance and accountability from experienced counselors.

When appropriate and with your authorization, Counseling Plus Inc. can provide progress updates or completion documentation to your referring agency at no additional administrative cost.

Upon successful completion, participants leave with an individualized relapse prevention plan and practical strategies designed to help maintain long-term recovery and reduce the risk of future substance use.
