What Is This Service?
Virtual therapy, also known as telehealth or online counseling, is the delivery of professional mental health and substance use counseling services through secure video conferencing technology. Instead of traveling to an office, you attend your therapy sessions from home, work, or any private location with an internet connection — receiving the same quality of care as in-person sessions.
Virtual therapy sessions are conducted by the same licensed clinicians who provide in-person services at Counseling Plus Inc. The therapeutic approach, confidentiality standards, and clinical quality are identical whether you attend virtually or in person. The only difference is the convenience of attending from wherever you are.
Counseling Plus Inc. has offered virtual therapy throughout Maryland since before the pandemic made it mainstream. Our licensed clinicians are experienced in delivering effective therapy via secure video platforms. Virtual sessions are available for individual therapy, couples counseling, family therapy, substance use counseling, evaluations, and DUI/DWI program sessions — all in English and Spanish.
Who Needs This Service?
Virtual therapy may be right for you if you have a busy schedule that makes in-person appointments difficult, if you live in a part of Maryland without easy access to quality counseling, if you prefer the privacy and comfort of attending from home, or if transportation is a challenge. Many clients find virtual therapy more convenient and less stressful than in-person visits.
Virtual therapy is also ideal for individuals with mobility limitations, parents who can't easily arrange childcare, professionals who can't take time off during the day, and clients who feel more comfortable opening up from their own environment. If you've been putting off therapy because of logistical barriers, virtual sessions remove those obstacles.
Virtual therapy is appropriate for most of the same concerns addressed in in-person therapy — anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, substance use, anger management, and more. Our clinicians will let you know if they believe an in-person session would be more appropriate for your specific situation, but the vast majority of services can be effectively delivered virtually.

How the Process Works
Getting started with virtual therapy is simple. Contact us at (301) 555-1234 or through our online intake form. Our bilingual team will gather basic information, match you with an appropriate clinician, and schedule your first virtual session — often within 48 hours.
Before your first session, you'll receive instructions on how to access our secure video platform. You'll need a device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer) and a reliable internet connection. You'll also need a private, quiet space where you feel comfortable talking openly.
During the session, you and your clinician will conduct therapy just as you would in person. The clinician will guide the conversation, provide support, and work with you on your goals. Sessions are typically 50 minutes. After the session, you can schedule your next appointment. All virtual sessions are encrypted and HIPAA-compliant.
How Long Does It Take?
Virtual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes long, the same as in-person sessions. The frequency and total number of sessions depend on your individual needs and goals.
Many clients attend weekly or biweekly sessions. Your clinician will work with you to determine the appropriate frequency based on your situation. Progress is reviewed regularly to ensure therapy remains effective.
If therapy is required by a court or probation officer, the required number of sessions will be specified in your order. We provide attendance records, progress reports, and completion documentation for your referring party at no additional cost — the same documentation we provide for in-person services.
Who Accepts It?
Our virtual therapy services are provided by licensed clinicians and are accepted by Maryland courts, probation offices, the MVA, attorneys, employers, and schools. Virtual sessions meet the same clinical and legal standards as in-person services, and all documentation is identical.
If therapy is required as part of a court order, probation condition, or MVA requirement, we provide attendance records, progress reports, and completion certificates directly to your referring party at no additional cost. Virtual documentation carries the same weight as in-person documentation.
Virtual therapy is also fully appropriate for self-referred clients who are not involved with the legal system. All services are confidential and protected under HIPAA and Maryland state privacy laws, regardless of whether you attend virtually or in person.
What Happens After Your Appointment?
After each virtual therapy session, you and your clinician may discuss next steps, homework, or strategies to practice before your next session. Therapy is an ongoing process, and progress is reviewed regularly.
If therapy is required by a court or probation officer, we provide attendance records, progress reports, and completion documentation directly to your referring party at no additional cost — exactly the same as in-person services.
Many clients continue virtual therapy for as long as they find it valuable. If you reach a point where you feel ready to end therapy, your clinician will work with you to create a plan for maintaining your progress. You can always return for additional sessions if needed.
